MIL-STD 810 Certification

The MIL-STD-810G military standard addresses a variety of environmental conditions including:

High and low temperature exposure plus thermal shock (both operating and storage), low pressure for altitude testing, rain (wind-driven rain and freezing rain), humidity, fungus, salt spray, sand and dust exposure, explosive atmosphere, leakage and acceleration.

Originally established by the US government to simulate how materials would withstand hostile environments, it provides a series of test procedures for resistance to shock, vibration, dust, moisture and temperature extremes.

MIL-STD-461 is a military standard that establishes the control of electromagnetic interference (EMI) emissions and susceptibility characteristics of electronic, electrical and electromechanical equipment and subsystems for military equipment. EMI encompasses any unwanted signal, ‘noise’, generated by electronic equipment. Keeping EMI under control is crucial for military applications, because if it is out of control, the enemy will detect the military and could cause great loss. To design a product that meets the stringent requirements, engineers must have extensive knowledge of both electrical and mechanical design to prevent the unintentional generation, propagation and reception of electromagnetic energy, which can cause unwanted effects, such as physical damage to operational equipment.
